Iceland Genomics Corporation (IGC) is a privately held cancer biology company using an innovative 'clinical genomics' approach to understand the underlying mechanisms of cancer, isolate and characterize new therapeutic targets for cancer, assess outcomes of specific therapies in genetically defined subcategories of cancer patients and optimize clinical trials for success.

IGC was incorporated in the State of Delaware in October 1998, and is the sole owner of an Icelandic subsidiary called UVS. IGC is one of several genomics-based biotechnology companies operating in Iceland and the only company that solely focuses on cancer biology. The Company now has 23 employees, of whom 6 have PhDs. In addition to its agreements with over 60 clinicians (representing the great majority of clinicians in Iceland actively engaged in treating cancer), the Company also has agreements with both major national hospitals and the Icelandic Cancer Society (which is responsible for maintaining the National Cancer Registry) as well as the Genetical Committee of the University of Iceland. Permits to study and cross-reference over 20 different cancers have now been granted by the National Bioethics Committee and the Data Protection Authority.

The Company is located in a 14,000 square feet building located near the offices of the Icelandic Cancer Society, the University of Iceland and the National Hospital. Patient recruitment and sample collection is the responsibility of a separate not-for-profit organization housed nearby at Skúlaver, with 10 staff members.
