Through its comprehensive genomics approach, Avalon is able to pinpoint proprietary drug activity markers and drug targets and to use these for drug screening in complex biological systems, facilitating the identification of lead drug candidates. Avalon identifies small molecule therapeutic compounds directly from genomics data in three steps:

Identification of novel and key proprietary drug activity markers using a comprehensive set of genomics tools including molecular and pathological characterization, cytogenetics, and high density gene expression arrays,
Screening for new small molecule therapeutic compounds using its proprietary methods such as the Company's multi-parameter assays, and
Optimization of lead compounds using cutting-edge medicinal chemistry.
The Company's initial therapeutic focus area is solid tumors including cancers of colon, breast, lung, and prostate.

Avalon's strategy of combining the latest genomic approaches for gene and target identification with an aggressive pursuit of small molecule drug discovery has attracted significant interest from the pharmaceutical industry. In order to quickly pursue large-scale discovery and drug development within particular disease areas, Avalon enters partnerships with pharmaceutical companies as well as collaborative agreements with clinical and academic institutions.
