Founded in May 2001, we are a technology-led research company in the field of
life sciences, with expertise at the leading edge of target identification,
advanced screening assay system development, and screening.

personnel.
Our fully equipped, 1,300-sq. mt. state of the art laboratories and offices are
located in the prestigious San Raffaele Biomedical Science Park, Milan.
HISTORY
A new Bayer research group was established in 1995 at the San Raffaele
Biomedical Science Park (Milan), with specialized and dedicated laboratories for
the development of specific screening assays. This group represented the main
assay factory within the world-wide R&D organization of Bayer (Wuppertal, West
Haven and Kyoto), and it became a recognized leader in this field. In the
following years the group added competencies in the areas of bioinformatics and
target biology. In 2000 the group received the "Premio Italia" award of
excellence from Italian President A. Ciampi at the EXPO2000 in Hannover. Then,
in 2001, the transformation began of this advanced technology group into an
independent business unit, with the goal of becoming a discovery partner for
biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Finally, in late 2001, Axxam began
operations as a completely independent company.
Job Description:
Software Engineer/Database Specialist
Axxam is a successful and growing biotechnology company working in the field of
drug discovery, with an internal group dedicated to IT and bioinformatics,
including genomic sequence database systems, development of customized data
analysis tools, development of database systems for internal data, external
informatics projects with third parties, as well as internal network
maintenance.
This specific position will focus on continued development of our laboratory
informatics database system (LIMS), and the user interfaces to the system.
Specific requirements include:
• Significant knowledge of general relational database systems, normalized
database design, SQL query design
• Working experience with one of the major database systems (Oracle, SQL Server,
MS Access, etc...)
• Programming experience in a visual object-oriented environment -- specifically
Microsoft VB.NET or VC#.NET preferred
• Some experience with web-based interface development
• Biology/bioinformatics experience would be valuable, but not required
• Fluent spoken and written English is essential.
We would prefer an individual with 1-3 years work experience in a related
position.
