Bg-medicine
BG Medicine, Inc. was founded as Beyond Genomics,
Inc. in 2000 by thought leaders in systems biology from Harvard, Purdue,
Indiana, and Leiden (The Netherlands) Universities and by Flagship Ventures
(Cambridge, MA).
Since its inception, BG Medicine developed and validated its advanced
proprietary platform that uses an integrated approach to gene expression,
proteomics and metabolomics to provide actionable insight in the effects of
disease or treatment on intact animals or man. These profiles, which combine
information from multiple physiological compartments and often include thousands
of distinct analyte levels, enable unprecedented molecular characterization of
disease states and drug responses. This enhanced insight in disease and drug
effect form the basis for critical R&D decisions by global pharmaceutical
corporations.
BG Medicine's new name and new leadership reflect the decision to focus on
high-value drug development applications of its proprietary Systems Pharmacology
platform that is based on the scientific advances in the nascent Systems Biology
field.
BG Medicine has received investments from institutional (Flagship Ventures and
Gilde Investment Management) and strategic partners in excess of $26 million.
